Vienna is the capital of Austria and according to some, for several years, the capital of Christmas in Europe. Every year, there are no less than 14 Christmas fairs throughout the city.
Personal opinion
Vienna is the first city in Europe I visited. And I want to tell you that I’m glad it happened. Compared to many other European capitals, Vienna is an example of a well-organized city. This can be seen from the infrastructure, medical services and tourist events. The way the city is maintained, from the cleanliness of the streets to the white facades of the historic buildings, from the well-established public transport system and the ease with which you can move as a pedestrian or driver on its streets, imposes on every citizen or tourist acquiring the typical Austrian educated and civilized spirit.
Tourist spots
Clearly, between November and December, Christmas fairs are the main attraction. The Viennese Christmas Makert are spread all over the city, the most famous and largest of them being the one in front of the town hall, Rathausplatz.
Regardless of the season, the following attractions are a must see:
- The Imperial Apartments in Hofburg – you will see how the Hapsburg emperors lived in the heart of the imperial capital.
- Schönnbrunn Palace – one of the most impressive European palaces, completed by a series of wonderful summer gardens, zoo but also the famous Gloriette which offers a grand view of the palace and its gardens.
- The Music Museum – how about getting to the city of the greatest composers in the world and not visiting such a thing? Believe me, it’s one of those museums in the world that you don’t want to miss. And the Viennese know how to create museums!
- Belvedere Palace – many art exhibitions are organized here, the palace has a very beautiful view of the city and some gardens you want to visit during warm weather.
- St. Stephen’s Dome – a Gothic church dating from the 12th century, located almost in the heart of the city.
The city itself is a must visit and what I wrote above and what you will see below in the pictures are just a drop of what the Austrian capital means.
